Spirit of Matushka & Skana: Twin Hydrofoil-Assisted Catamarans for Major Marine Tours

All American Marine (AAM) proudly delivers Spirit of Matushka & Skana, two 87-foot hydrofoil-assisted catamarans, to Major Marine Tours for wildlife and glacier tours in Kenai Fjords National Park. Built to USCG Subchapter T standards, these 150-passenger vessels combine cutting-edge marine engineering with passenger comfort, enhancing eco-tourism in Seward, Alaska.

Innovative Hydrofoil-Assisted Design

Designed by Nic de Waal of Teknicraft Design, these 87’ x 32’ semi-displacement aluminum catamarans integrate hydrofoil-assisted hull technology for exceptional stability, speed, and fuel efficiency. Featuring Teknicraft’s signature symmetrical and asymmetrical hull shape, bow wave piercer, and fixed aluminum hydrofoil, the design minimizes drag and ensures a smooth ride in variable sea conditions.

Powered by four Scania DI16 082 engines (788 bhp @ 2100 RPM) and four Hamilton Jet HM422 waterjets, the vessels reach cruising speeds of 20 to 30 knots, offering optimal fuel efficiency at all speeds. The 1200-gallon fuel capacity supports extended operations, while Hamilton Jet AVX controls provide advanced maneuverability with JetAnchor and Station Keeping modes.

Unparalleled Passenger Experience

Spirit of Matushka & Skana were designed for maximum passenger comfort and accessibility, featuring:

  • Two spacious enclosed cabins with tables at every seat
  • Covered exterior seating, including an open-air 3rd deck
  • High-quality Beurteaux seating with USB charging outlets at every table
  • Expansive stadium standing area for wildlife and glacier viewing
  • Wheelchair accessibility throughout the main deck, including designated seating and bow access

Enhancing Kenai Fjords Wildlife & Glacier Tours

“All American Marine worked with us to define our goals, design a vessel that met those goals, and then delivered,” said Colby Lawrence, Vice President of Major Marine Tours. “These vessels will be a game-changer, offering unmatched capacity, comfort, and speed for our guests.”

Advancing Alaska’s Eco-Tourism Industry

“All American Marine is proud to deliver these state-of-the-art vessels,” said Ron Wille, AAM President & COO. “These catamarans set a new standard for high-performance, fuel-efficient, and passenger-friendly eco-tour vessels.”

Built at AAM’s Bellingham, WA facility, Spirit of Matushka & Skana represent the next generation of Alaska wildlife and glacier tour vessels, providing sustainable, high-speed, and immersive experiences for passengers exploring the breathtaking Kenai Fjords.
