Swiftsure: High-Speed Whale-Watching Catamaran for Puget Sound Express

All American Marine (AAM) proudly delivers Swiftsure, a 77-foot aluminum catamaran, to Puget Sound Express (PSE), expanding their award-winning whale-watching and eco-tourism fleet. Designed for speed, efficiency, and passenger comfort, Swiftsure enhances daily tours from Edmonds, WA, offering an unparalleled experience for wildlife enthusiasts.

Innovative Hydrofoil-Assisted Design

Designed by Nic de Waal of Teknicraft Design, the 77’ x 29’ semi-displacement aluminum catamaran integrates hydrofoil-assisted hull technology for exceptional speed, stability, and fuel efficiency. Built to USCG Subchapter T standards, Swiftsure’s wave-piercing bow and dynamic hydrofoil system minimize drag and enhance ride quality in all sea conditions.

Powered by four Scania DI16 083M engines (800 mhp @ 2300 RPMs) and Hamilton HJ364 water jets, the vessel achieves top speeds of 40+ knots, ensuring efficient, low-impact travel through Puget Sound’s protected waters. The Hamilton Jet MECS control system provides unparalleled maneuverability, reducing wake impact and underwater noise, critical for minimizing disturbances to marine life.

Unmatched Passenger Experience

Swiftsure is designed for passenger comfort and sustainability, featuring:

  • 150-passenger capacity with spacious seating and ADA-friendly accommodations
  • Recyclable Ayres aluminum honeycomb wall panels & Dampa acoustic ceiling tiles for a quiet, eco-conscious cabin
  • Three restrooms and an extended galley with a full-service bar
  • Seven HDTVs and a premium sound system with indoor and outdoor speakers for immersive narration
  • Superior soundproofing in the engine room to ensure a peaceful ride

Expanding Puget Sound Express’ Legacy

“This is another very special occasion for Puget Sound Express,” said Peter Hanke, co-owner of PSE. “Swiftsure is our third vessel built with AAM, and once again, they exceeded our expectations in performance, sustainability, and design.”

Advancing Sustainable Eco-Tourism

“All American Marine is proud to deliver this cutting-edge vessel,” said Ron Wille, President & COO of AAM. “Swiftsure will enhance PSE’s whale-watching experiences while maintaining low fuel consumption and minimal environmental impact.”

Built at AAM’s Bellingham, WA facility, Swiftsure sets a new standard in high-speed eco-tour vessels, blending advanced marine engineering with world-class passenger amenities for the ultimate whale-watching adventure in the Pacific Northwest.
