NOAA’s Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary Research Vessel
All American Marine (AAM) proudly delivers a 50-foot aluminum research vessel to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary (OCNMS) in Washington State. Built to USCG Subchapter T standards, this state-of-the-art vessel enhances scientific research, ocean conservation, and marine species monitoring in one of the most ecologically significant marine sanctuaries in the U.S.
Innovative Hydrofoil-Assisted Design
Designed by Nic de Waal of Teknicraft Design, the 50’ x 19’ semi-displacement aluminum catamaran integrates Teknicraft’s signature hull shape and wave-piercing technology. This advanced design minimizes drag, enhances fuel efficiency, and ensures smooth operation in varying sea conditions.
Powered by twin Cummins QSC8.3 engines and twin propellers, the vessel achieves exceptional fuel economy while supporting multi-mission scientific research. The catamaran accommodates up to 18 personnel, making it a versatile platform for near-coastal and offshore surveys.
Advanced Research & Survey Capabilities
The vessel is fully equipped for seafloor mapping, habitat characterization, ocean species monitoring, and environmental data collection. Key features include:
- 250 sq. ft. aft working deck with an adjustable A-frame for launching scientific equipment
- Interocean Conduction Wire Winch, Hauling Winch, and Morgan 300.4 Crane for field operations
- Flexible deck socket system for secure equipment placement
- Wet and dry laboratories for specimen examination and data processing
- Universal Sonar Mount for additional scientific equipment integration
Enhancing NOAA’s Marine Research & Conservation Efforts
“All American Marine worked diligently with Teknicraft to design a flexible, mission-adaptable platform,” said Ron Wille, President & COO of AAM. “NOAA plays a vital role in marine conservation, and we are proud to support their research with this custom-built vessel.”
Advancing Marine Science & Sustainability
Built at AAM’s Bellingham, WA facility, this research vessel strengthens NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, which protects over 600,000 square miles of marine and Great Lakes waters. Equipped with a fully functional galley, dinette, HVAC upgrades, and live-aboard accommodations, this vessel ensures comfort, efficiency, and cutting-edge research capabilities for NOAA’s essential ocean conservation efforts.
