American Marine, Inc. is on schedule to complete and deliver two 72’ ferries for New York in 2010. AAM began construction in October 2009 on the first of two new commuter ferries for a private customer in New York.
The 72’ ferries will carry 149 passengers and feature indoor and outdoor seating. Both vessels were designed by Nic de Waal of Teknicraft Design and incorporate many eco-friendly components. Green features include the propulsion systems consisting of Caterpillar C18 ACERT engines fit with specialized CleanAIR Permit filters to reduce harmful emissions by up to 99%. Noise pollution will be mitigated with acoustic foam insulation and critical grade mufflers. The cabin interiors will be finished with recyclable aluminum honeycomb wall panels and recyclable aluminum ceiling panels with acoustic insulation.
Once finished, the finished vessels will be coated with a low VOC paint system. Other amenities include ADA-friendly heads, comfortable Beurteaux seating, and bicycle storage racks to encourage as many commuters as possible.
