The Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary's new 48' catamaran is designed to serve as a multi-purpose research vessel. This research vessel will work primarily in the important fishing and whale congregation area of Stellwagen Bank which is approximately 25 miles east of Boston, MA. The vessel will have the ability to deploy and tow scientific equipment through it's 2000lb A-frame and knuckle crane. In addition, a state-of-the-art Nitrox dive air system will allow NOAA scientist better access to the underwater environment.
The Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary is part of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Marine Sanctuary Program who's mission is to serve as the trustee for the nation's system of marine protected areas, to conserve, protect, and enhance their biodiversity, ecological integrity and cultural legacy.
